The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has lauded the proposed plan by Governor Umo Eno to defect to the party, describing it as a wise and strategic move.

This was contained in a statement released on Saturday by the Director General of the party’s Media Network, Iniobong John, in Uyo, the state capital.

The defection rumour, which has been circulating on social media, was confirmed by the governor on Thursday during the last State Executive Council meeting when he ordered his commissioners to defect with him or resign from their position.

“Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century.

“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and local government chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you.

“Let me tell you, anybody who believes that when I leave the PDP, he will use the party structure to fight me is lying because I will still control the PDP structure,” the governor told his commissioners

John said the governor’s planned defection is in order as it would connect the state to the national power centre, thus paving the way for massive and meaningful progress in the state.

According to him, the move will forge the needed collaboration between the governor and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to facilitate democratic dividends to the state.

John said, “APC Media Network views Governor Umo Eno’s decision to join our party as a wise and strategic move. His leadership and experience would be invaluable assets to our party.

“Akwa Ibom State’s integration into the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is crucial for its development. With Governor Eno’s potential defection, the state would be reconnected to the central government, paving the way for meaningful progress.

“In collaboration with Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Eno would be instrumental in attracting essential democracy dividends from the Federal Government to benefit the people of Akwa Ibom.

“A notable example is the much-anticipated Ibom Deep Seaport project, which is expected to become a reality before the end of 2031.

“As the gubernatorial candidate of our great party, Governor Eno’s re-election would be a foregone conclusion. We extend a warm welcome to him, assuring him that our party is safe, well-structured, and fully prepared to take him and his entourage to their desired destination, driving progress and development in Akwa Ibom State.

“We look forward to identifying with his exemplary leadership and working together for the state’s growth.”

He also urged party officers and members in the state to extend a warm welcome to the PDP members joining the party.

“Let us receive them with open arms, embracing their newfound commitment to our party’s ideals. Together, we can build a stronger, more united APC, driving progress and prosperity for all in Akwa Ibom State,” he added.
