Tuesday May 20, 2025 |

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested suspected cultist, Ubong Friday Benson, and also recovered dangerous weapons from him.

This was contained in a press release issued and signed by the Command’s public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Timfon John, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

According to the PPRO: “Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, swiftly responded to a distress call from a man ( name withheld) of Ikot Imoh Village in Abak LGA, reporting that his 24-year-old son, Ubong Friday Benson, of the same address, had barricaded himself and was threatening to kill him with a dagger. The complainant further stated that the suspect had previously threatened to shoot him with a locally made pistol, which he habitually concealed in a nearby bush.

“Upon receiving the report, a team was immediately mobilized to the scene, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect, Ubong Friday Benson. During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to possessing the firearm and subsequently led the police team to a bush where the alleged locally made pistol was recovered.

“Further search of the suspect’s possession led to the recovery of the following dangerous weapons:
* one dagger
* one iron filer
* one long iron chisel
* one iron hammer
* one penknife.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect had allegedly inflicted injuries on some community members prior to his arrest. However, at the time of this release, only the suspect’s father has come forward to provide a statement.

“Investigations are currently ongoing, and the Akwa Ibom State Police Command is committed to ensuring the swift prosecution of the suspect,” DSP John concluded.
