The Akwa Ibom State Football Association has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), President of the Nigeria Football Federation, on his elevation as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.

Gusau’s new role follows the resignation of Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku of Ghana, who vacated the WAFU B presidency after being elected into the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a congratulatory message on behalf of the state’s football fraternity, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr. Samuel Umoh, hailed Gusau’s emergence as a significant win for West African football.

“We heartily congratulate Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau on this well-deserved installation as President of WAFU Zone B,” said Mr. Umoh. “His tenure as NFF President has already brought visible progress and renewed energy to Nigerian football. I am confident that these same positive strides will now be transferred to WAFU B, driving unity and growth across the sub-region.”

Umoh further described Gusau as a “visionary administrator whose leadership has inspired confidence at all levels of the game,” noting that his elevation reflects the trust and expectations of member nations within WAFU Zone B.

Alhaji Gusau, who became NFF President in September 2022, previously served as the First Vice President of WAFU B. His appointment comes just after Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, clinched bronze at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, along with a coveted FIFA U20 World Cup ticket.
