The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has lauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for executing and completing an expansive solar lighting project at its Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.
This was expressed by Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, on Tuesday, when he received a delegation from the State Office of the NDDC led by Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State on the Commission’s Governing Board.
He acknowledged that the development has had a positive impact on the Command, stressing that it has strengthened synergy between the Police and the Commission.
“NDDC has done us well; today, in this Command Headquarters, you cannot differentiate whether it is day or night because our premises are always well-lit. Our premises, offices, and gadgets are now powered, and we run our operations without hitches. Thank you very much for the gesture,” CP Azare declared.
The Commissioner of Police informed the delegation that the Command has officially notified the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, of the development.
He also appealed for intervention in other areas.
“Be rest assured that we will continue to partner with you; anything you want, just knock, and we will answer because we are partners in progress,” he assured.
Speaking on behalf of the NDDC delegation, Apostle Nkono congratulated CP Azare on the successes recorded in combating crime by the Command under his stewardship, saying it is proof of the Police Commissioner’s commitment to effective policing.
Speaking about the Commission’s ‘Operation Light Up The Niger Delta’ program, Nkono noted that most communities in the Niger Delta region have benefited from solar lighting projects.
According to him, the presence of NDDC solar lights in communities has enhanced security, as criminals find it difficult to operate without the cover of darkness at night.
“We will sustain collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies,” he assured.
He also used the forum to inform the Command of NDDC’s 25th anniversary, scheduled to hold in July 2025.
Engr. Evong Evong, NDDC State Director; Mrs. Anthonia Akpan, NDDC State Director; Mr. Nobert Brown, Deputy State Director; other members of management in the State Office, and Officers-In-Charge (O/Cs) of Police Departments graced the event.
