The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has declared that the Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) deserve another term at the expiration of their first tenure in 2027.
Ndoma-Egba, a former Senate Leader and one-time Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), made the declaration at the endorsement rally organised by the people of Cross River Central Senatorial District to seal President Tinubu and Governor Otu’s second-term bid under the auspices of the Central Progressive Initiative (CPI) in Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the event which had prominent and highly respected Cross Riverians from all walks of life in attendance, the legal luminary, who played key role in the emergence of Otu as the guber flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, and worked relentlessly for the governor’s victory at the poll, said: “Today, we are here to endorse our governor, Senator Bassey Otu, for another term after 2027 and our President and Commander-In-Chief, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term.
“In Cross River, we have a tradition. We go by zones or senatorial districts. The tradition has been that everybody (governor) has been allowed to do 8 years since this democratic dispensation. Senator Otu should be allowed to do his eight years in peace and without distraction.
“People say that this endorsement is coming too early. I don’t think so. It is good that we endorse him (Otu) now, so that he can concentrate on the good work he is doing and not be distracted by politics.
“So, the earlier, the better. And there is no better time than now to endorse him. I fully support this move that he be endorse. I also support the move that our President and Commander-In-Chief be endorsed at this point, for reasons of tradition and stability.
“I welcome all of us from the central senatorial district to this epoch-making event and enjoin you all to continue to put your weight and support behind our amiable governor, Prince Bassey Otu and our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Ndoma-Egba, who was the Secretary of the Campaign Planning Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, also called on Cross Riverians to continue to pray for God to keep guiding and directing Governor Otu and President Tinubu as they work towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
