Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media to Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ridiculed the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, in response to his recent comments.
Fubara, speaking at a service of songs for the late elder statesman Edwin Clark in Port Harcourt on the 11th of May, 2025, stated he was no longer “desperate” to return to office.
“Can’t you see how much better I look? Do you think I’m interested in going back? My spirit left that position a long time ago,” he revealed.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara, alongside his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu and members of the State House of Assembly, for six months. This suspension, aimed at quelling the escalating political tension in Rivers State, also saw the appointment of retired naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ibas, as Sole Administrator.
The decision came after a fierce power struggle between Fubara and Minister Wike, which had nearly spiraled into violence, with militant threats targeting the state’s oil infrastructure.
Reacting to Fubara’s statement, Olayinka took to X comparing the situation to a failed marriage and suggesting that since Fubara’s “spirit already left,” he should legally walk away.
“It’s not necessary to remain in a marriage where your spirit has already left. Just opt out legally,” Olayinka quipped.
