Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor has lauded Governor Umo Eno, for the massive support he has given the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, an agency under her ministry, which has led to several rural road projects in the state.

Dr. Offor stated this, after the visit of the World Bank team and the National RAAMP project Coordinator, led by Mr. Rakesh Tripati and Engr. Aminu Mohammed.

“I am happy that the World Bank people came, it shows that Akwa Ibom is one of the leading states in the implementation of the RAAMP project in Nigeria. We are thankful that they were in the state.

We have only been able to achieve this, because of the massive support from. Governor Umo Eno, in counterpart funding for the project.” She said.

On the rural road project implementation, she also said, work is being carried out according to standard, and the objective of the project is being realized, in line with the ARISE AGENDA of His Excellency, which is the rural development and agricultural revolution initiatives.

When our rural roads are good, farmers will have easy access to their farms, prices and food will stabilized and rural development will be enhanced, poverty will be reduced, food security will also be enhanced and farmers will get more value for their farm produce.

They were excited that the roads were being done according to specifications and the timelines were being met, and they encouraged the state project implementation unit and the contractors to keep up the good work.

Dr. Offor further stated that, the state is fully prepared for the World Bank scale up programme, which will enable the state access more funding and projects.

According to the Commissioner, “We are fully prepared and will be one of the participating states and the Governor has supported us a great deal to ensure that we participate in the scale up, so we are going to participate in the next phase of RAAMP, which up to 500km of roads will be done statewide.”

We are excited to be part of that scale up, which will see the spread of roads across the 31 local government areas in the state.

The Governor has set up a committee that will review the roads to ensure spread, and a report be submitted to him to show that there is spread, and advised that the spread should be statewide.”

She concluded that the ministry will work with the anniversary committee in the state, to see how the completed road projects will be commissioned.
