The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued a two-year-old girl who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba, Abia State, for the sum of one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000). The rescue operation, carried out by NAPTIP’s Abia Command on Thursday, May 8, 2025, followed the arrest of a suspected trafficker by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to a statement released by the agency on Friday, the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is alleged to have collaborated with three distinct trafficking syndicates operating from Abuja.
The suspect reportedly facilitated the sale of the young girl, who has been given the alias Chiamaka Favor, to an unidentified buyer in Aba. The trafficking is believed to have occurred in February 2025.
The DSS in Abia State apprehended the suspected trafficker and subsequently handed the individual over to NAPTIP for further investigation and legal proceedings.
NAPTIP has confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the trafficking network and the circumstances surrounding the child’s abduction and sale is currently underway.
The agency’s statement emphasized the collaborative effort between NAPTIP and the DSS in this successful rescue operation, highlighting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating human trafficking.
In a direct appeal, NAPTIP has urged the biological parents or any relatives of the rescued two-year-old girl, Chiamaka Favor (alias), to urgently come forward and contact the NAPTIP Abia Command or any other NAPTIP office nationwide. This appeal aims to reunite the child with her family and provide her with the necessary care and support.
