President Bola Tinubu has sought the Nigerian Senate’s confirmation of Hon. Chibudom Nwuche as Chairman of the newly formed South South Development Commission, SSDC, and Miss Usoro Offiong Akpabio as the Managing Director.
This was disclosed in a letter sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio by the President on Thursday, May 8.
Nwuche, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (1999–2003), hails from Rivers State. Akpabio, a seasoned politician and strategist from Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is expected to bring her extensive experience to the leadership of the commission.
The nominees will be screened by respective committees before confirmation.
The development comes as Tinubu in February 2025, assented to the regional commission bill.
