The Ekid People’s Union (EPU), a socio-cultural group, has appealed to Governor Umo Eno to rehabilitate the long-abandoned Qua River Hotels in Eket, saying its rehabilitation will boost tourism development in Akwa Ibom State.

The union highlighted that the hotel, which has been neglected for over two decades, has deteriorated into a hub for criminal activities and illegal land sales.

They explained that the hotel has the potential “to boost tourism, generate employment, and stimulate economic growth in the region.”

This appeal was part of a broader communique issued during the EPU’s quarterly meeting in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area, and signed by its president, Samuel Udonsek, Bassey Dan Abia, Secretary and made available to the media.

While commending Governor Umo Eno for resolving issues related to the Esit Urua Palm Plantation and for appointing three Ekid sons to his executive council, they urged the governor to rehabilitate the hotel to revitalise the local economy and address the associated security concerns.

The Qua River Hotels, once a prominent hospitality outfit, holds significant cultural and economic value for the Ekid people ,as the call brings to the fore the community’s desire to preserve its heritage and promote sustainable development through the restoration of this landmark.
