Suspected Cultists Butchered Farmer In Akwa Ibom Community | TheNewsDESK

Hoodlums suspected to be cultists have murdered one Itoro Umanah, said to be a farmer from Udianga Enem community in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Community sources told our corespondent in Uyo on Tuesday that the killers stormed their victims’ apartment at about 10pm while he was asleep with his wife and three children and cut him to pieces.

The widow of the deceased Mrs Jimmy, while narrating the incident, said the cultists gained entrance into the compound and started calling her husband out, adding that in the struggle that ensued, they started cutting him into pieces.

“They came at about 10:00 pm, my husband, who was tired after returning from work, was sleeping at the veranda, resting because of the heat inside. They (the assailants) came, called my husband out.

“My husband shouted and raised the alarm, but no one came to his rescue, and suddenly his voice could not be heard again. At that point, I took my children and escaped into the bush behind our backyard.

“In the morning neighbours arrived to see his dismembered body. I have three children, and the elderly is a final year in a monotechnic college in Uyo,” she said

A family member who preferred anonymity recalled that the deceased had been in a running battle over a parcel of land with his elder brother before the sad incident.

The Village Chairman, Chief Lawson Marcus Akpanowon, said the incident has been reported to the Divisional Police station at Utu Etim Ekpo, headquarters of Etim Ekpo LGA.

“After securing Police consent, we buried the deceased . The Police team had come to see the body cut into pieces, and we were asked to work in synergy and do some internal investigations, “the traditional ruler stated

Meanwhile, the state command of the Nigerian Police has confirmed the incident, adding that the commissioner of police, CP Baba Azare, has ordered an aggressive manhunt to track the hoodlums

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said: ” Investigation on the incident has commenced. I will update you before the end of the day. “
