The National Identity Management Commission has unveiled a new service called NIN Authentication (NIN AUTH) for easier and safer verification of the National Identification Number (NIN).

In a statement by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, on Tuesday in Lagos., the NIMC said the Federal Government had already Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to use this NIN Auth service for identity checks.

NIMC explained that NIN Auth can be used through the web, mobile apps, or API. The commission guarantees the protection of people’s data and privacy.

“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” Adegoke said.

The website for the platform is https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng

More information on the website says : “NINAuth simplifies identity sharing, acting as a digital extension of your NIN—think of it as your ID in your pocket.

“With support for W3C Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and Verifiable Credentials (VC), your NIN becomes portable, reusable, and universally accepted. No paperwork. No repetition. Just smooth, modern identity sharing.”
