Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to free businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu within the next 24 hours.

The ruling came on Tuesday, a day after Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives around 5 a.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Achimugu is currently under investigation for alleged involvement in conspiracy, fraudulently obtaining money, money laundering, corruption, and possession of properties believed to have been acquired through illicit means.

Justice Ekwo also directed that both parties return to court on May 2, to report on the outcome of the order.

Earlier on Monday, the court had instructed Achimugu to voluntarily present herself to the EFCC as part of the ongoing probe.

The judge further ruled that after her appearance at the EFCC office, the commission was expected to return to court with her on Wednesday, April 30, to provide a status report.
