Akwa Ibom State will host the World Tourism Summit in September this year as part of efforts to develop its tourist sites and boost internally generated revenue.
This was announced by Anieti Udofia, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, during a radio programme in Uyo, the State capital.
Udofia said plans were already at an advanced stage for the three-day event, which would be called “Ibom Tourism Fare.”
“We are making plans to host a first-ever World Tourism Summit, which will last for three days,” Udofia said.
The Commissioner, who has been in office for just over a month, also listed some achievements under his leadership. He highlighted the success of the Heritage Day event on 19th April, which celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Akwa Ibom people. Udofia said that Heritage Day will now be held every year on 18th April.
