As Nigerians prepare to mark the Easter holiday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has issued a strong appeal to motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to ensure a safe and fatality-free celebration.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Ota, the Ifo Unit Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Memee Timothy, warned against dangerous driving habits, stressing that many road crashes are avoidable if road users exercise caution and responsibility.
“Motorists should refrain from speeding, wrongful overtaking, and driving against traffic that could lead to unnecessary loss of lives during Easter,” Timothy said.
He further cautioned against overloading and drunk driving — two major contributors to road accidents — and urged motorists to make safety a priority while traveling during the festive period.
In a bid to ensure smooth vehicular movement, Timothy revealed that FRSC personnel will be stationed at strategic points across Ogun State, including high-risk zones and road construction areas. Their duties will include traffic control, accident response, and the arrest of erring drivers, particularly those caught overloading vehicles or driving without valid licences.
“Our men will be on the ground to monitor and control traffic and promptly respond to emergencies involving accidents or breakdowns,” he said.
He called on motorists to cooperate with FRSC officials and other sister security agencies, emphasizing the Corps’ commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users throughout the Easter season.
“We are fully committed to making sure that people reach their destinations safely. This is a collective responsibility, and we appeal for cooperation from all stakeholders,” Timothy added.
The FRSC reiterated its pledge to continue educating road users on safe driving practices while maintaining strict enforcement to curb violations that endanger lives on the highways.
