A group of women in Port Harcourt has taken to the streets in a show of support for the state of emergency recently declared in Rivers State.

Dressed in white and carrying placards with messages such as “Prosecute the bombers of Rivers Assembly” and “State of emergency is constitutional,” the women voiced strong backing for the appointment of Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of the state.

The demonstrators marched through key areas of Port Harcourt, singing solidarity songs and chanting slogans in favor of the emergency measures.

This latest demonstration follows an earlier protest on April 11 when women rallied against the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the emergency declaration made by President Bola Tinubu.

The emergency rule, announced on March 18, was triggered by an extended political crisis in the oil-rich state. Alongside Fubara, the president also suspended Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and the entire state assembly for an initial six-month period.

Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired naval officer, was immediately installed as the interim head of the state administration.
