Gov Umo Eno Commends NDDC as Niger Delta Sports Festival Closes in Uyo, Tuesday

Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for organising the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, NDSF, describing it as a visionary initiative that promotes youth development and regional unity through sports.

The governor, who was represented by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area and State ALGON Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, gave the commendation during the closing ceremony of the weeklong sporting event held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Dr. Udo conveyed the governor’s appreciation for the choice of Akwa Ibom as host and emphasized the state’s pride in facilitating a festival that prioritized talent discovery and youth empowerment over competition and rivalry.

He further urged the participants to take home lasting memories of Akwa Ibom’s hospitality, culture, and culinary richness, assuring them of a warm welcome should they return in the future.

At the end of the competition, Bayelsa State emerged overall winners of the maiden festival, while Cross River State finished at the bottom of the medal table.

The festival, sponsored by the NDDC, featured various sporting activities aimed at strengthening regional ties and building a stronger foundation for sports in the Niger Delta.
