The Nigerian military has vowed to capture notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, declaring that his “days are numbered.”
This statement comes less than 24 hours after Turji reportedly killed 11 farmers in Lugu town, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, while returning from a Sallah visit.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, April 3, Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, dismissed claims that the military had reduced its operations against terrorists, cattle rustlers, and herdsmen.
“I have read out the report for the quarter, listing some high-value terrorists that were eliminated,” Kangye said. “As for Bello Turji, it is just a matter of time, an appointment will be fixed with him by his maker.”
He also addressed concerns about Niger Republic’s possible withdrawal from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), warning that such a move would have serious security implications for the region.
“The MNJTF was established by Lake Chad Commission countries to address common security concerns,” he explained.
“If a member withdraws, it weakens the collective effort. It is not in our interest for any country to leave because whatever affects them also affects us.”
Kangye further reassured the public that the military remains committed to protecting the nation and supporting injured troops.
