Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has inaugurated the Agriculture and Food Security Committee as part of his moves to demonstrate the premium his administration places on Agriculture and food security in the Arise Agenda.
Inaugurating the committee at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Uyo, shortly before the State Executive Council meeting, the Governor expressed optimism that as experts in the agriculture sector, the committee will bring their knowledge to bear in the discharge of their duties, ensuring that the committee justifies the purpose of its constitution by government.
He said already, the state government through the ministry of agriculture, is working hard to achieve food availability for the people, while also exploring ways of assisting farmers in different categories to grow.
He therefore tasked the committee to work out modalities of reaching out to farmers across the 31 local government areas in the state, recommend pro- agriculture policies that if implemented, would improve yearly harvest in the state, enough for consumption by the people and for export purposes.
The committee, headed by Professor Okon Ansa as Chairman has Professor Trenchard Ibia, Dr. Etemudo Udongo, Ambassador Alphonsus Inyang, Professor Elizabeth Ebukiba and Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor as members while Mr Ofonmbuk Nelson is to serve as Secretary.
