Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has praised the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for organizing the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF). He noted that the festival will promote sports tourism in the region and help identify talents for national and international competitions, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
“This is a significant opportunity provided by the NDDC, and I encourage all of you to take it seriously. From this event, we could discover talents for higher competitions,” the governor stated during his visit to the athletes’ camp at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) in Ikot Ada Idem, within the Ibiono Ibom local government area.
As the host state of the NDSF, Akwa Ibom aims to top the medal table. During his visit, the governor promised cash rewards for athletes finishing in the top three positions.
He made this promise while addressing the athletes during an unplanned visit to the DASAC camp. Governor Eno emphasized his administration’s commitment to sports development and urged the athletes to make the state proud during the games.
He assured them that the government would reward all medalists.
“We cannot host this event without winning medals. For each Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal, there will be a reward. I will meet with you immediately after the games to congratulate and reward the winners,” he said.
Over 300 athletes will represent Akwa Ibom in 17 sports categories during the Niger Delta Games, which will take place from April 1 to 9 at various locations across the state.
