Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey has tasked the state female team, Ibom Angels FC to go all out for victory when they square up against their opponent, Delta Queens FC as the second stanza of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) begins.
The Uyo-based team will be taking on their Delta State counterparts in the opening fixture of the second stanza at the Uyo township stadium on Wednesday, March 19 by 4pm.
Addressing the management, coaches and players of the team during a working visit to the team’s camp at the Uyo township stadium, the sports commissioner commended their commitment from the playoffs in Calabar, Cross River State where they qualified to the league and their performance in the first stanza.
He said the state government under the leadership of Pastor Umo Eno will continue to prioritize their welfare and give them the necessary support to succeed including prompt payment of salaries, adding that the only way to reciprocate the gesture of the governor was to get good results starting with the game against Delta Queens on Wednesday.
“I came primarily to encourage and motivate you ahead of the second stanza of the league. This is my first time of visiting your camp as a Commissioner and I can say that it is still work in progress because this environment is better secured and comfortable compare to the former camp where there were incidences of robbery attacks.
Secondly, I’m here to reassure you of the government support, you have a match tomorrow and I decided to come and encourage you to do your best that the whole state, including the governor is backing you to succeed,” Elder Bassey stated.
The sports commissioner who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Lady Rose Bassey assured the players that the team bus earlier promised by Governor Umo Eno will soon be released to them and also donated beverages, toiletries, packs of bottled water and other items to the team.
Responding on behalf of the team, the captain Abasiofon Uwah thanked Governor Umo Eno for the support given to the team and promised to work hard to achieve success in the second stanza of the league and beyond.
Ibom Angels currently occupying the 6th position in Group B after garnering 7 points from 7 matches in the first stanza, will be hoping to revive their campaign under experienced Coach Edwin Okon as the second stanza gets underway.
