President Tinubu Declares State Of Emergency In Rivers, Suspends Fubara, Deputy, 27 Lawmakers

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, evening, declared a statement of emergency in Rivers State, thereby suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy for a period of six months.

In their place, President Tinubu has appointed a former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ikwe Ibas, as the Sole Administrator of the State.

President Tinubu said in a national broadcast that his decisions were to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the State bedevilled by political crisis for almost a year now.
