President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his confidence in Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, describing him as a competent leader and a man of integrity.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, Tinubu praised Akpabio’s leadership and contributions to national development.
“I am proud of him. He is a good man and a capable leader,” the President said, underscoring Akpabio’s impact on governance.
Tinubu also addressed the political crisis in Rivers State, calling on Niger Delta leaders to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara in implementing the Supreme Court ruling.
He stressed that his intervention was aimed at ensuring stability in the state.
According to him, all parties had signed an agreement to resolve the crisis, and adherence to the rule of law must be upheld.
Some leaders expressed concerns over the governor’s decision to sign the agreement.
However, Tinubu dismissed their reservations, affirming that the supremacy of the law is non-negotiable.
“If there was no rule of law in Nigeria, I wouldn’t be President today,” he declared.
The President also commended the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for his leadership.
He urged Niger Delta leaders to support Ogbuku to drive greater development in the region.
Acknowledging the Niger Delta as Nigeria’s economic backbone, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing the region’s potential for national prosperity.
His endorsement of Akpabio further solidifies the Senate President’s influence in national politics, reinforcing his role as a pillar of stability and progress in Nigeria’s democracy.
