The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed allegations made by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who claimed that his former commissioner, Malam Jafaru Sani, was abducted by a so-called “kidnapping gang” within the police force.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, the police described the claim as misleading and urged the former governor to verify his allegations before making public statements.

“The attention of the Kaduna State Police Command has been drawn to a statement credited to former Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai on his X handle, where he alleged that his former commissioner, Malam Jafaru Sani, was abducted by what he referred to as ‘Uba Sani’s kidnapping gang,’ which he claimed to be the police,” the statement read.

The police categorically refuted the claim, emphasizing that “there is no kidnapping gang within the Nigerian Police Force.”

“The Nigerian Police, as an institution created by the 1999 Constitution, is mandated to maintain law and order. In fulfilling this duty, the police have the legal and constitutional authority to arrest and investigate individuals suspected of committing offences,” the statement added.

The command further explained that individuals, corporate organizations, and government bodies have the right to file complaints, which the police are duty-bound to investigate. If an offence is established, the matter is prosecuted or referred to the courts.

The police urged members of the public, particularly those who have held positions of authority, to refrain from making “frivolous and malicious allegations” against security agencies.

“Unverified allegations against security agencies not only mislead the public but also have the potential to undermine law enforcement efforts. Citizens who feel aggrieved should seek legal redress rather than resort to inflammatory statements that could escalate tensions,” the statement concluded.
