The Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Adewole Adebayo, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will lose his seat in the 2027 polls.
Adebayo, a prominent figure in the SDP, expressed confidence that his party would produce Nigeria’s next leader. He made the declaration during an appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Friday, March 14, 2025.
“Tinubu is going to be removed from power, that one is sure, and there would be an SDP president,” Adebayo asserted.
The politician also reaffirmed his intention to contest the presidency again, stating that he is unbothered by the political weight of recent defectors to the SDP.
“Let us understand something. I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming in knows I will run in 2027,” he said. “Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party cannot be president.”
His comments come after the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, joined the SDP on Monday. El-Rufai has reportedly been working to attract other politicians to the party.
Adebayo welcomed El-Rufai’s move, describing him as a diligent and patriotic leader.
“The reason why I welcome El-Rufai to my party is that I see him as a patriotic Nigerian, hard working, very effective in an area where we don’t have effective people in government, that’s all,” Adebayo said.
