The Ikot Esenam Obom community of Akwa Ibom state has thumbed up Governor Umoh Eno for appointing a former state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Hon. Udo Kieran, as his Special Adviser on Labour Matters.

The community said the appointment reflects the governor’s unwavering commitment to promote workers’ welfare and ensure a sustainable environment conducive for peaceful and harmonious relationship between workers and the state government.

In a release jointly signed by the village council chairman and secretary, Prof Francis Udoudo and Mr Dominic Utin respectively, the community described the appointment as not only inspiring to the people of the state but an honour to Hon Kieran, and expressed optimism that he would bring his extensive experience in labour matters to bear in his new role.

The community particularly hailed the governor for appointing Hon Kieran, who is their son, and had led the state NLC for eight years from 199-2007 and later served as the Special Adviser, Bureau for Labour Matters during the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio from 2007 to 2010, noting that it also aptly demonstrates the governor’s determination to place square pegs in square holes.

The statement said the people of the community applauded the governor for choosing one of their own to serve in his cabinet, adding that it further showed Eno’s commitment for inclusive governance.

The community assured Governor Eno of its determination to identify with and rally support for the ARISE Agenda, a core driving tool of the state government to engender fast and concrete development strides through empowerment of women and youth and the provision of key infrastructures state-wide.

The community project leader, Chief Anthony Umoren, also commended the governor, stressing that Kieran’s impressive credentials as a seasoned labour leader, former deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, who is vastly knowledgeable on the socio-economic situations of the state, makes him a perfect fit for the new role.
