President Bola Tinubu has announced automatic employment for 774 fellows participating in the national health programme, PlatinumPost reports.
The President made this announcement during the official launch of the initiative in Abuja.
Addressing the fellows, who are responsible for monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, Tinubu declared: “You are hired,” assuring them of job placements at the conclusion of their one-year programme.
“The Coordinating Minister and the champion of this programme have requested approval, and luckily, the Minister of Finance is here also,” Tinubu added.
“This programme is designed to expose you to best practices and keep you of the knowledge and skill to transform the sector. Healthcare is a critical pillar of national development, no country can prosper if its people are unhealthy and unsustainable health programmes are a precise danger. Sustainable development is only possible with a strong healthcare system and you are the pillars.”
The announcement followed a call from the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, who urged all levels of government to absorb the fellows into the workforce to enhance universal health coverage.
The fellowship, a key component of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to strengthen the primary healthcare system through innovation and skilled talent. Fellows were chosen through a merit-based selection process from a pool of over 359,000 applicants.
