Abducted Benue University Students Regain Freedom

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of the three female students kidnapped from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, FirstNEWS reports.

The students were abducted on February 25, 2025, while returning from a night study session on campus.

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) announced their release in a news update on X on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Following the abduction, the university management declared a one-week mid-semester break to tackle security concerns.

This decision was outlined in an internal memo titled Security Situation on Campus, issued a day after the incident and signed by the Registrar, Dr John David.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, had urged authorities to intensify efforts to secure the students’ release.

Details regarding how they were freed remain undisclosed at the time of filing this report.
