The new Commissioner for the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, resumed on Tuesday with a promise to build on what his predecessor, Sir Charles Udoh, left behind, TheGUARDIAN reports.

He also commended the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, and the entire staff for the roles they had been playing to sustain the ministry and keep it viable.

Udofia spoke when the management and staff of the ministry, led by Akpan, received him as he resumed duties.

Udofia spoke shortly after the Permanent Secretary handed over the assets and liabilities of the ministry to him.

Udofia started by expressing appreciation for the warmth and love he experienced as he stepped into the ministry and urged the staff to maintain the bond of togetherness and team spirit in the discharge of the tasks and programmes of the ministry.

He particularly commended the Permanent Secretary for her commitment and dedication, as portrayed in his interaction with her since he was posted to the ministry on Monday, and expressed the hope that all staff of the ministry would team up with the Permanent Secretary to enable the ministry to deliver on its mandate as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda.

Udofia pledged to take the ministry to higher heights by consolidating and expanding on the achievements of his predecessor, Sir Charles Udoh, and to draw from his wealth of experience.

The commissioner acknowledged that well-motivated staff would be productive, stating his commitment to a good reward system for workers, and charged all staff of the ministry to take their duties seriously.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary had said she was handing over to the new commissioner a payroll of 122 vibrant and highly motivated staff, who had been punctual to work and very committed to their daily assigned duties and activities.

She said that with tourism as a globally acknowledged cash cow utilized for the development of most economies, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, had placed tourism on the pinnacle of his development blueprint on the ARISE

Agenda, putting the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on a speed lane to deliver on its mandate.

The new commissioner took out time to interact with the staff, sang choruses, prayed with them, and inspected some offices in the ministry.
