The Ministry of Education, Akwa Ibom State, today welcomed its newly appointed Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, as he officially resumed duty at the ministry’s headquarters, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, just a day after his swearing-in.

Upon assumption of office, Prof. Umoh embarked on a familiarization tour of the ministry, engaging with staff and assessing operations. Reflecting on his return, he described it as a homecoming, recalling his previous role in the State Scholarship Board many years ago.

Reaffirming the importance of education as outlined in Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno’s ARISE Agenda, the Commissioner pledged to effectively interpret and implement the vision. As a proud product of the public school system from primary to tertiary levels, he emphasized his commitment to quality education, accountability, and improved learning outcomes.

Prof. Umoh urged ministry staff to raise the bar in service delivery, stressing that accountability will be a key focus of his administration.

In a demonstration of his commitment, he paid an impromptu visit to Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns, Uyo, where he was warmly received by the Principal, Pastor Ime Ekpo, staff, and students. The visit took an emotional turn when he revealed that he attended the school as a student, further strengthening his resolve to support its development.

“As Commissioner and an alumnus, I will be making unscheduled visits to ensure the school remains a model of academic excellence,” Prof. Umoh stated, urging teachers and students to improve their efforts for better learning outcomes.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Acting Permanent Secretary and Director of Administration & Supplies, Mrs. Dorathy Isong, alongside other Directors and staff of the ministry.

The Ministry of Education remains committed to enhancing the quality of education in line with the ARISE Agenda.
