MONDAY February 24, 2025 |TheNewsDESK

The grand finale of the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Federation Cup was held on Sunday, February 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium. In the Women’s category, Ibom Angels FC triumphed over debutants Jacklyn Angels FC with a 3-0 victory. Goals from Georgeline Wami and a brace from Ijeoma Oneawgba helped Ibom Angels retain their title as champions of the competition, SportsRATION reports.

In the Men’s category, Akwa United claimed the 2025 Akwa Ibom State President Federation Cup trophy with a 1-0 win over Eagle Eye Football Academy. Ibrahim Akande scored the only goal of the match in the second half, ensuring Akwa United won the title for the 16th time in 17 years.

The match was a historic moment for Eagle Eye Football Academy, as this was their first-ever appearance in the state final. Despite their efforts, the two-time national champions, Akwa United, proved too strong and defended their crown.

The final was attended by several important figures, including the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, who took the ceremonial kickoff before the Men’s match. Also present were Board Members of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, led by Chairman Mr. Samuel Umoh, NFF Executive Board Member Otuekong Nse Essien, Commissioner-Designate Elder Paul Bassey, and other officials and staff of the Ministry of Sports, including Permanent Secretary Mrs. Rose Bassey. A large crowd filled the Uyo Township Stadium to witness the exciting finals.

With the state finals now concluded, all four finalists will move on to the National Finals, set to begin in March 2025 with the playoff round.
