The Head Coach of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Finidi George is quite optimistic that they will defeat Akwa United in Uyo in today’s midweek game in match day 25 of the Nigeria Profesional Football League (NPFL), Tide reports.
Coach Finidi who expressed disappointment over their 1-0 loss in Aba feels that if his players can play the same way they played in Aba, he is quite optimistic that they will run away with three points in Uyo.
Finidi said this during his post match interview with sports journalists made available to Tidesports on Saturday shortly after they lost 1-0 to Enyimba FC at the Aba Township Stadium.
” If we can keep this same performance in Uyo, I think we are going back home with something. I am quite positive”, Finidi stated.
The former Enyimba FC head coach commended the Enyimba fans for the love they expressed towards him in spite the fact that he played against his former team.
“You can see the love after three years, I am here with a new club but they still support me so I really appreciate them,” he said.
He attributed the loss in Aba to his players for not utilising chances that were created, as their host converted the free kick awarded to them.
” Yes, they have Imoh Obot who is a specialist in free kick. I give credit to him. From that moment, we pushed and made some changes in the second half that positively affected the game.
“I am quite pleased even if we lost the match, I think my team played well, it has been a long time we played this way but today, I must commend the players for their effort.
” Unfortunately, we are leaving here without a point it, is not a good one”, he added.
