The Federal Government has installed new passport printers at its Atlanta and New York consulates in the United States to ease passport processing and reduce delays experienced by Nigerians in the diaspora.
This move follows persistent complaints from Nigerians abroad about the slow processing of passports due to faulty printers at the consulates, TheWILL reports.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had in January 2025, directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to facilitate the delivery of new passport printing machines to both locations.
Confirming the installation, Babatunde Alao, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior, said in a statement on Wednesday that the printers were delivered and installed on February 18, 2025.
“The ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” Alao stated.
He added that the development aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) and reaffirms the administration’s commitment to enhancing service delivery for Nigerians.
“With these new printers, Nigerians in Atlanta and New York can expect a faster and more efficient passport application process,” he assured.
