The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has clarified that a viral video showing police officers allegedly mistreating a pregnant woman is not related to the ongoing enforcement of the Third Party Vehicle Insurance policy in the state.

The video, which caused widespread outrage among Akwa Ibom residents, was circulated on social media with claims that it was connected to the vehicle insurance enforcement.

However, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Timfon John, dismissed these claims, confirming that the video was an old clip from a past incident, unrelated to the current insurance enforcement.

“That video is an old clip from a previous incident. It has no connection to the vehicle insurance enforcement. Those sharing it are just being mischievous,” DSP John stated.

She also mentioned that there was another video that had not been shared publicly, revealing that the woman in the video had acted inappropriately.

The PPRO added that the woman’s husband had come forward to apologize, and they had evidence to support this.

DSP John reassured the public that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under Commissioner of Police Bala Mohammed Azare, remains dedicated to protecting lives and property with a focus on human-centered policing.

She highlighted that CP Azare has been proactive in educating the public through consultations, stakeholder engagements, and awareness campaigns to prevent any misuse of power or violations by police officers during the enforcement of the vehicle insurance policy.
