Officers of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have arrested Usman Jibrin, the former Chief of Naval Staff and retired vice admiral, along with Adam Yusuf, a Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State for embezzling over N3 billion, The Street Journal reports.

This was revealed via a statement by ICPC’s Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, on Friday, February 7.

Bakare mentioned that Yusuf, who had been evading capture, was arrested at his home in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

He was taken into custody alongside Jibrin, and both individuals are now facing prosecution.

The statement read, “ICPC investigations revealed that former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (rtd.), allegedly orchestrated the fraud through Yusuf and former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum (rtd.).

“The alleged scheme reportedly involved the diversion of public funds using 92 fictitious companies that were not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

“An investigation by the ICPC traced these funds to Lahab Integrated, Gate Coast Properties, and other affiliated companies, leading to the acquisition of over 18 properties, including filling stations.

“Four of these properties have been forfeited to the government so far, while legal proceedings continue over the remaining assets.”

Yusuf was accused of serving as a front for Jibrin, helping to facilitate questionable financial dealings for the purchase of valuable properties.

The ICPC boss stated that intelligence reports indicate he also acquired multiple immovable assets overseas, including in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) using intermediaries.

Another associate, Ademu Mohammed, was also used as a front to acquire even more properties on behalf of Jibrin.

Bakare finally stated that the ICPC is stepping up its efforts to capture the remaining suspects.
