Electoral Fraud: Court Jails Another Professor In Akwa Ibom

High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has sentenced Prof. Ignatius Uduk to three years in prison over electoral Freud.

Prof Uduk was arraigned under charge no: HU/240c/2020, on three count charges of abandonment of duties and generation of false scores on form EC BE (II) on 10th March 2019 at INEC office in Afaha Ikot Ebak during the State House of Assembly elections; announcement and publication of false election result; and lying on oath at the inception of the Election Petition tribunal.

Delivering the judgment at High Court 5, Uyo on Wednesday, Justice Bassey Nkanang acquitted Uduk, Professor of Human Kinetics of Count 1, but however convicted and sentenced him to three years imprisonment each on Count charges 2 and 3 to be served concurrently.

Uduk, who was the Collation/Returning officer for Essien Udim State constituency in the 2019 general elections, was first arraigned in court by INEC on December 9, 2020.

Recall that High Court sitting in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State had March 24, 2021 sentenced Professor Peter Ogban to jail, a move many considered a significant milestone in bringing electoral offenders in Nigeria to account.
