The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on the Federal Government to urgently revisit or overhaul its macroeconomic policies, warning that the current economic hardship is unbearable for Nigerians.

In a communiqué issued after its first meeting of 2025, held at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State, the forum stated that no meaningful development could be achieved in the states until the harsh policies were addressed.

Reading the communiqué, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, said:

“The macroeconomic policies of the Federal Government have inflicted hardship and pain on the polity. Therefore, the forum calls on the Federal Government to either revisit or rejig its macroeconomic policies to ameliorate and stop the hardship and pains they have inflicted on Nigerians. No meaningful or impactful achievements in the states will be realized until these harsh policies are addressed.”

The governors reaffirmed their support for the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the PDP National Secretary position and urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the judgment without delay.

“The forum noted with delight the ongoing efforts at resolving the crisis in the NWC on the position of the National Secretary, and has reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal judgment. Consequently, the forum advised the NWC to set up the machinery for the effective implementation of the court judgment,” the communiqué read.

The governors also urged the PDP leadership to reschedule the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025, stating:

“Having examined all the notices required by law to validly convoke NEC, the forum advised the NWC to reschedule the NEC meeting to the 13th of March 2025.”

On national security, the governors commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their relentless efforts in tackling insecurity but expressed concerns over the resurgence of violent non-state actors.

“While commending our valiant and patriotic Armed Forces and Security Agencies for maintaining the frontline in securing the country, the forum views with deep concern the resurgence of brazen non-state actors. It therefore calls for the strengthening of the nation’s security architecture,” the communiqué stated.

The governors also commended their host, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, for his achievements in infrastructure, environmental remediation, and security.

“The forum expresses its gratitude to the host governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Government, and the good people of Delta State for their hospitality and friendly disposition that yielded a successful, well-structured, and impactful meeting. We also commend the governor for the giant strides recorded by his administration in the areas of infrastructure, environmental remediation, people empowerment, and combating insecurity.”

Reaffirming their commitment to the party’s mission, the governors urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the prevailing hardship, promising that the PDP would restore the country’s prosperity if given the opportunity.

“Finally, the forum enjoins Nigerians not to despair in the face of the prevailing hardships with the firm assurance that the PDP will remain committed to returning our great nation to the glorious days of the pre-2015 era—of manageable costs of living, security of lives and property, and greater unity and prosperity for all citizens.”
