A new Commanding Officer, Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi has officially assumed duties at the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigade Headquarters, Mbiokporo 1 Military Cantonment in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.


This was made known in a statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 2 Brigade, Lieutenant David Adejimi, and made available to journalists in Uyo.

According to Lieutenant Adejimi’s statement, Brigadier General Tawasimi took over on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Before this appointment, he served as the Commander of the 8 Division Garrison in Sokoto.

The statement reads: “Today, January 29, 2025, Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi officially assumed command as the 44th Commander of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army at the Brigade Headquarters, Mbiokporo Military Cantonment, Nsit-Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

“The transition occurred as part of the Nigerian Army’s strategic routine redeployment. Prior to this appointment, Brigadier General Tawasimi served as the Commander of the 8 Division Garrison in Sokoto.

“As part of the handing and taking over ceremony, the outgoing Commander, Brigadier General Jafaar Ibrahim, commissioned several key projects, including the Unknown Soldier Statue, the Brigade Mascot Statue, and the Mascot House.

“Following the commissioning, Brigadier General Ibrahim formally transferred command by presenting signed documents and the command flag to Brigadier General Tawasimi.

“During his farewell address at the Brigade’s Conference Room, Brigadier General Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure and urged personnel to extend the same cooperation to his successor.”

However, the event was finalized at the quarter guard, where the outgoing commander’s flag was lowered, and the incoming commander’s flag was hoisted, symbolizing the complete transfer of command to Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi.
