President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, on his victory in the country’s recently concluded general election, TheWill reports.
This followed the concession speech by Mahama’s opponent, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a telephone conversation with Mahama, Tinubu expressed optimism that his return to power would bolster stability within the Economic Community of West African States and strengthen regional cooperation.
President Tinubu commended the people of Ghana for their unwavering commitment to democracy, as evidenced by the peaceful and transparent conduct of the presidential and parliamentary elections.
He remarked, “Once again, Ghanaians have demonstrated to the world that democracy is the surest path to achieving political stability, economic development, and social justice in Africa.”
Tinubu further praised the governing New Patriotic Party candidate, Dr. Bawumia, for graciously conceding defeat even before Ghana’s Electoral Commission officially announced the results.
He described Bawumia’s action as a testament to Ghana’s entrenched democratic values.
Reflecting on Mahama’s return to the Jubilee House, Tinubu highlighted his extensive political experience, including his tenure as Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2017, Vice-President from 2009 to 2012, and a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009.
The President described Mahama’s electoral victory as a sign of the trust and confidence Ghanaians have in his leadership and vision for the future.
The Nigerian leader also thanked outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for his exemplary leadership, which he said contributed to Ghana’s progress and regional peace during his tenure.
