President Bashar al-Assad has fled capital, Damascus as opposition forces declare victory and capture Syria.

The Syrian government has fallen in an end to the 50-year rule of the Assad family after a lightning rebel offensive.

Soldiers of the Bashar Assad regime were seen crossing the Iraqi border and sought refuge in Iraq, according to REUTERS.

The IL-76T plane, allegedly carrying Assad, has reportedly crashed near Al-Suwayri.

Syria’s army command has notified officers that President Bashar al-Assad’s rule has ended following a lightning rebel offensive, a Syrian officer who was informed of the move told Reuters.
Syrian rebels said Damascus was “now free of Assad”.

The Syrian General Staff is reported to have ordered all combat units to surrender and disband.
