NLC President Unveils CNG Buses For Workers, Warns Against Gas Price Hike

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has introduced new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses for workers in Rivers State, reports the PlatinumPost.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Ajaero cautioned that the union would not tolerate a scenario where the price of CNG rises to match that of petrol.

The CNG buses are part of an intervention from President Bola Tinubu’s administration, aimed at easing the burden on Nigerian workers following the Federal Government’s removal of the fuel subsidy.

The event in Port Harcourt marked the introduction of ten CNG buses designated for the South-South region.

Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, joined Ajaero at the unveiling, with both officials commending the initiative.

Addressing the recent court ruling affecting allocations to Rivers State, Ajaero called on the Nigerian judiciary to avoid what he termed “a journey of self-destruction,” warning that the union would not stand by while workers in Rivers are treated unjustly.

The labour leader also praised Governor Sim Fubara for his decision to approve a minimum wage of N85,000 for state workers.
