Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Monday, October 7, 2024, sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice Chairmen for the 31 local government areas of the state, with a charge for them to make the people’s welfare a priority.

Thirty of the new chairmen were elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while one was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Again, while five of the new local government chairmen are women, 26 vice chairmanship slots are occupied by women.

The new chairmen will take charge of the affairs of the local government areas for the next three years.

Governor Eno thanked the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for their commitment to the conduct of a fair and free election.

Governor Eno also reminded the new chairmen that their coming into grassroots government at a time of dwindling economic fortunes, places a burden on them to turn the situation around for the benefit of the people.

He charged them to ensure peace, and unity at the grassroots by making the people’s welfare a priority in line with the Arise Agenda of his administration.
