Defence Minister, Chief of Defence Staff arrive in Sokoto amid rising security concerns

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, along with Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, has arrived at the Headquarters of the 8 Division Nigerian Army in Sokoto.

The high-ranking delegation was welcomed by Brigadier General Ajose, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Force Commander of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Hadarin Daji.

This visit comes in response to the alarming security situation in Sokoto State, particularly following several deadly bandit attacks that have plagued the region.

The delegation aims to assess the current security landscape, with a focus on enhancing the operational capacity of the troops and boosting their morale.

President Bola Tinubu had previously instructed defence chiefs to relocate to Sokoto in light of the escalating violence, which has made Sokoto and its neighboring states notorious for banditry and terrorism.

Further details regarding the outcomes of this visit and additional measures to address the security challenges in the region are anticipated soon.
