The Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement, Rep. Unyime Idem, has charged the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, and Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria, CIPSMN, to imbibe global best practices in procurement and supply chain management in the country. 
Idem gave the charge during a joint meeting with the Director General of BPP, Barr. Olusegun Omotola and the President of CIPSMN, Alhaji Abdulhamid Diekola Oyewo at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The Federal lawmaker also called for collaboration between the agencies for effective discharge of their duties.
The meeting was a follow up to a Public Hearing, organized on July 15, 2024, by the Public Procurement Committee of the House of Representatives, on a Bill for an Act to amend the Chartered Institute of Purchasing And Supply Management Act 2007.
Rep. Idem reiterated the Committee’s commitment to upholding the legal and institutional framework for the enthronement of transparency, accountability, value for money and efficiency in the procurement of works, goods and services within MDAs as stipulated in the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
Recall that the House during plenary on Wednesday, 28th February 2024 considered a bill seeking to amend the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria Act, 2007 to be in tandem with what obtains in the Procurement Professional Practice Across the Globe and for Related Matters (Hb. 346), and after a debate on the bill, it was referred to the Committee on Public Procurement for further robust legislative input from procurement professionals and stakeholders.
