The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has appealed for stronger and more strategic partnership with stakeholders on security matters in the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Waheed Ayilara, made the appeal during a familiarisation tour of the 31 LGAs.
The Command’s Spokeswoman, ASP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Monday.
ASP John stated that the tour was aimed at building a robust partnership with relevant stakeholders across the entire LGAs to effectively check crime and criminality in the state.
“The purpose of this tour was to assess the conditions of the Divisions, engage with stakeholders, deepen local intelligence and also meet with members of the communities in Akwa Ibom.
“During the tour, the CP met with all the 31 council Chairmen, traditional rulers, Divisional Police Officers and critical stakeholders”, John added.
She further stated that the CP used the opportunity to affirm his commitment toward providing adequate security for lives and property in the state.
She quoted the CP to have said that he was open to “constructive criticisms and contributions from the good citizens and public-spirited individuals” because he was in the state “not as a master, but a servant, poised to serve diligently”.
ASP John added that the CP also promised that the Command, under his watch, “will continue to design and deploy strategic security measures to prevent crime.
“The CP assured the communities that the Command under his leadership will continue to work toward safeguarding the rights of the citizens by the already established Police Complaints Response Unit within the Command.
“He cautioned against unprofessional conduct by officers and men as management will not hesitate to deal with anyone involved in any misconduct and unprofessional acts”.
The statement disclosed that the tour, which began on May 15, ended on July 4.
