••• Rescues Kidnapped Victim At Etim Ekpo

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has achieved a major breakthrough in its tireless efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents.
The latest feat is the successful rescue of a 63-year-old retired Shell Petroleum Company worker, kidnapped on June 17, 2024, by four armed men in military camouflage.
According to a press release signed by ASP John Timfon, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N50 million, later reduced to N20 million. However, the police successfully rescued the victim without paying any ransom.
ASP John hinted, “acting on intelligence, Commissioner of Police CP Waheed Ayilara immediately deployed the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) to swing into action and rescue the victim.
“Upon sighting the Police, the kidnappers started firing at them. During the ensuing gun duel, one of the Kidnappers sustained serious gun shots injury, while others escaped. The injured suspects was taken to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.”
The victim, according to the Akwa Ibom Police spokesperson, was rescued unharmed from a compound at Ikot Udobong Village, Etim Ekpo LGA even as efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
However, CP Ayilara has expressed gratitude to residents for their support and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating crime in Akwa Ibom.
