The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Joseph John Obobikpe as a member of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).
While presenting the report of the Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights, and Public Petition, the Chairman, Prince Aniefiok Attah, stated that no adverse reports were found against the nominee following the screening process.
Hon. Attah, who represents Nsit Atai State Constituency, highlighted that Dr. Obobikpe meets the constitutional requirements for the appointment as stipulated in Section 200 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The committee affirmed that the nominee is of high intelligence and integrity, expected to enhance the Commission’s operations.
After deliberating on the committee’s report, the House unanimously accepted the recommendations and granted approval to the nominee.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, directed the Clerk, Mrs. NsikakAbasi Orok, to transmit the House’s resolution to the state Governor for further action. Governor Umo Eno had previously submitted a letter on June 6th seeking Dr. Obobikpe’s confirmation as a member of the Independent Electoral Commission.
