Tinubu travels to South Africa, Today, Tuesday for President Ramaphosa’s swearing-in

President Bola Tinubu departs for Pretoria, South Africa, today, June 18, 2024, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

President Ramaphosa secured a renewed mandate following South Africa’s recent general election held on May 29.

Despite his party, the African National Congress (ANC), winning 159 out of 400 seats in Parliament, a ruling coalition was formed with longstanding rivals, the Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

This coalition agreement paved the way for President Ramaphosa’s re-election in Parliament, which took place just last Friday.

President Tinubu, representing Nigeria, will participate in the inauguration ceremony in Pretoria and is expected to return promptly after the event.
