Ebonyi NUJ mourns member killed by hit-and-run driver

A journalist in Ebonyi State and Staff of the State Ministry of Information and State Orientation, Sunday Agara has been crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver.

The incident happened along the ever-busy Nwezenyi/Ndubia axis of the Trans-Sahara African Highway while returning from his farm.

A statement by the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sampson Nwafor, described the death of Agara as painful and unfortunate.

The deceased, Agara was said to have been riding on his motorcycle along the highway when the hit-and-run driver crushed him to death.

Nwafor, who expressed sadness over the death, noted that the death of Agara is coming barely one month after another colleague, Simon Ezaka was also involved in a ghastly motor accident along the Abakaliki– Afikpo express highway.

The NUJ statement said that Agara was one of the best public relations officers under the Ebonyi state government’s employ where he demonstrated competence and dexterity in the discharge of his duties as a PRO.

The Ebonyi NUJ chairman further maintained that, as a Unionist, he contributed immensely to the growth and stability of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ebonyi State, through his active participation in the Union’s activities and programmes.

The deceased was a staff of the Ministry of Information and State Orientation, Ebonyi State, deployed to the State Ministry of Power and Energy as a Public Relations Officer.
