The Nigerian Police Force has assured Ibom Community Watch (ICW) of its commitment and cooperation in their security efforts.
The Area Commander for Uyo, ACP Samuel Okon PhD, expressed gratitude to the ICW Coordinator, Isantim Kenneth Okon, for respecting the police’s authority and emphasized the importance of community partnership in intelligence gathering for effective policing.
Giving the assurances, Area Commander for Uyo, ACP Samuel Okon PhD made this known when Coordinator of Ibom Community Watch, Isantim Kenneth Okon paid a familiarization visit to ACP Okon and other Divisional Police Stations(DPO) in Uyo metropolis.
“I want to sincerely thank you and your team, for respecting the office of the area commander.
Community partnership like Ibom Community Watch which you are the head has a lot to do in terms of intelligence gathering because those are the nucleus of the policing itself. Once you don’t have people to give you information on how to go about it, you can do nothing, we are not magicians, I want to sincerely thank you, I promise you that all my DPOs will cooperate with you, of course your assignment is undoubtedly beautifying and enhancing our performance”, ACP Okon said.
Okon of ICW presented the law that established the ICW and informed the Uyo Area Command of their readiness to work with the police in providing credible intelligence for proper policing.
He emphasized that ICW members would not be above the law and would be held accountable for any wrongdoing.
Okon ICW said “We have many things to do together, for now only Uyo Local Government Area has been inaugurated, inauguration of the other thirty local government are still pending, our members are to provide credibly intelligence to the DPOs and other security agencies In their various domains. Our members are not above the law, if they commit, they will promptly be arrested and charged to court. We came to intimate you that Ibom Community Watch is ready to work with you”.
Okon ICW, along with Otuekong Ndueso Monday, Head of Operations ICW at the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways, ASP Femi Adeyemi visited DPO of A Division; CSPJohn Abia, CSP Bassey Obetem, DPO of Martha Vineyard Division, CSP Emeka DPO Itam Division, CSP Emem Mfon DPO of C division, CSP Nsorpia Prince DPO of E Division- Shelter Afrique, and Ewet Housing DPO; SP Akinwuemi Adio all in Uyo metropolis to solidify the collaboration with the police.
Recall that on the 14th of December 2023, Akwa Ibom Governor Pastor Umo Eno inaugurated Ibom Community Watch ICW as a subset of the ARISE agenda of the his administration.
